    The plan is for Deven to go tell Kathy good-night and apologize just to let her see that he isn't holding any grudges.

    Deven peeks around the corner and sees Kathy on her knees, chanting some words in a trancelike voice while she is holding the dagger.

    Deven feels relieved. Once again, his best friend is stepping up and making him feel like he isn't alone.

    The chances of him staying alive through all this begin to dominate his thinking.

    He starts to really evaluate the situation. If he stays, he can lose his life; if he goes to Kabul, he can lose his life.

    Flying is tense by itself, but the added pressure of the whole situation has made everyone really uptight.
