We suppose when your guests include major international sports figures and Hillary Clinton, a DJ probably just wouldn't cut it in the entertainment department.

Kevin Hart withdrew from his gig hosting the upcoming Oscars because of some insensitive jokes and tweets that came back to haunt him. Now there's a rumor that the ceremony will go on without a single host, with different personalities introducing separate segments of the show.

The new season of Stranger Things debuts on Netflix next year, and a teaser trailer came out this week. The trailer contained the new episode titles and scary music, not surprisingly. A dilettante is someone who gets into something one week and drops it the next, flitting from one interest to another without ever getting seriously committed to anything for any length of time.

The Hollywood Foreign Press, the organization that hands out the Golden Globe awards every year, announced that it will establish a new award for lifetime achievement in television. The award will be named after its first recipient, comedy legend Carol Burnett. Something eponymous bears the name of the person who created it or who is most closely associated with it.

'Tis the holiday season, and that means Christmas music — even old Christmas music — appears on the pop charts. Michael Buble’s 2011 Christmas album came in at number 5 on the charts this week, and Mariah Carey's 1994 album is also enjoying a resurgence in popularity right now.

The granddaddy of a certain video game genre, the first-person shooter scenario, is getting new life. Doom will be re-released in 2019 with new levels and other features. Insidious means something that seeps and creeps into other stuff, usually with a bad outcome.

Over in the U.K., a second Buckingham Palace staffer is leaving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the short time since their spring wedding. Is Meghan hard to work for? Rumors abound that suggest she's an acquired taste among the royal family and their closest friends. The palace intrigue continues!

George R.R. Martin is finally addressing his delay in finishing the Game of Thrones saga. In a post on his blog, Martin thanked his fans for their support and asserted that, while it isn’t right around the corner, fans will see the end of the story they know and love. The series has two unpublished books slated — the unfinished The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring , which Martin has not yet begun.

Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next” was back on the top of the singles chart this week. The song’s 93.8 million streams is a new record for a female artist, besting Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do.” A metric is a way of measuring something, and the results can change based on the metric used. It is important to be aware of the method of measurement and what that metric is designed to reveal.

Jennifer Lopez, who is promoting her new movie Second Act, opened up to People magazine about her relationship with former baseballer Alex Rodriguez. This is not the first time that Lopez has publicly gushed about being deliriously happy with her significant other, but good for them! Maybe this one's for keeps.

Meek Mill's Championships debuted at the top of the Billboard charts this week. This is Mill's first full length album since he was released from prison back in April, following up on the four-song Legends of the Summer. Championships is his sixth consecutive top ten album.
