Glitch: Chapters 4–9

Regan Fitz and Elliot Mason are teenage Glitchers — time travelers trained to protect the past and future from changes in history. After they find a letter from Regan’s future self, the two must work together to stop an impending disaster that threatens everyone’s future.

    Our hands collided, both scrabbling for it in our panic to get it hidden, and it fell into the bubbling water of the fountain and vanished.

    I looked up at him, still baffled, and he held a finger to his lips and silently slipped over the edge of the fountain and into the water, dragging me behind him.

    I practically flew through campus, dodging other students who had the luxury of walking to class instead of sprinting, and the entire time I was seething inside.
  12. bellows

    A large furnace and bellows were set up at the far end of the room, complete with stacks of horseshoes and bits of iron.
  13. scrutinize
    look at critically or searchingly, or in minute detail
    The group had a nervous energy that seemed to hum around them, and I scrutinized each of the men carefully, looking to make sure that none of them was just a cleverly disguised Regan.
  14. conspirator
    a member of a plot to carry out some harmful or illegal act
    The chair near the door now had a stack of discarded clothing wobbling precariously as the men talked in the hushed voices of conspirators.
  15. dingy
    thickly covered with ingrained dirt or soot
    Seeing my opportunity, I stripped off my own shirt, grabbed a handful of ash, and scrubbed at my face and arms, turning myself the same dingy color as the men in front of me.
