    This time its ire was directed at Aidan.
  20. midst

    He blinked at a bit of colorful fluff high up in a tree that seemed weirdly steady in the midst of the chaos.

    a sensory system that registers the orientation of the head
    He found his equilibrium again, and his dad set him back on his feet.

    summon up, call forth, or bring together
    If she couldn’t muster words, that was bad.
  23. taper
    diminish gradually
    Then the wind around them began to taper off again.
  24. leach
    permeate or seep into gradually
    He reached toward her and felt more energy leach out of his body.
  25. shadowy
    lacking clarity or distinctness
    Brooke had seen the shadowy outline of a creature staring at her.
