    linger, remain, or wait around for no apparent reason
    The students often loiter after school while they wait for their rides.
  11. contemptuously
    without respect; in a disdainful manner
    The students contemptuously insulted the teacher.
  12. tendril
    slender structure by which some plants attach to an object
    A tiny tendril from the tree hung down in Simon's face.
  13. abyss
    a bottomless gulf or pit
    At the mining site, there was a giant abyss from years of digging.
  14. gesticulate
    show, express, or direct through movement
    During the play, the actor gesticulated wildly with his hands and arms to make his point.

    The boy flinched when he was shocked with electricity.

    not transmitting or reflecting light or radiant energy
    The glass in the restaurant was opaque and it gave a feeling of secrecy as you could not see what was going on behind it.

    Piggy gave a tacit response to Jack's suggestion by shrugging his shoulders.

    difficult or impossible to understand
    The forest looked inscrutable at night time and it made the littlun's imagine the Beastie.
  20. frown
    a facial expression of dislike or displeasure
    The boy frowned when he learned he not be given any ice cream.
  21. astonishment
    the feeling that accompanies something extremely surprising
    The astonishment the man had felt after he was shocked by electricity was incredible.
  22. reverence
    a feeling of profound respect for someone or something
    The choir seemed to give Jack great reverence when he said anything.
  23. clamor
    utter or proclaim insistently and noisily
    The Litlluns were always wanted to clamor about while they were playing.
  24. convulsive
    sudden and violent
    After being bitten by the poisonous snake, the boy went into convulsions.
  25. torment
    intense feelings of suffering; acute mental or physical pain
    The boy was tormented by the older kids because they made fun of him.
  26. lamentation
    a cry of sorrow and grief
    When the plane flew over and did not see them, the boys let out a cry of lamentation.

    Many Nazi soldiers were involuntary because they were forced to kill or be killed.
  28. decorum
    propriety in manners and conduct
