    Maybe this schism between the two of them played out already, and Cas just didn’t realize it until now.

    He stiffens slightly, gathering himself. Picking up that mask of cool indifference instead of admitting that he could’ve been wrong.
  14. coexist
    occur at the same time or place
    Her laughter now is something in between, or something else altogether—a boat weighed down by grief and heartache, yet somehow still afloat. Joy and sadness learning to coexist.
  15. mannerism
    a behavioral attribute that is distinctive to an individual
    It’s a mannerism Cas suddenly remembers from when they were ten years old.
