    The performance was staged by a group of amateurs who have been studying dramatics as a hobby.
  2. amiable
    diffusing warmth and friendliness
    Charlotte is an amiable person; everybody likes her
    Can also mean likeable or good natured
  3. amicable
    characterized by friendship and good will
    Let us try to settle our differences in an amicable manner, as other means would not be desirable.
  4. amity
    a state of friendship and cordiality
    When amity is restored, everybody will be nice and friendly to one another.
    Can also mean goodwill to others
  5. amorous
    inclined toward or displaying love
    Romeo is very amorous and obscurely displays his love for Juliet in the play "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare
  6. enamored
    marked by foolish or unreasoning fondness
    Romeo became enamored of Juliet and soon asked her to marry him.
    Someone who is enamored is "inflamed with love" for someone else.
  7. animosity
    a feeling of ill will arousing active hostility
    The animosity between Bob and Joe was soon replaced by respect for one another after each performed well on the math test.
  8. animus
    a feeling of ill will arousing active hostility
    I bear no animus towards Joe even though he stole all of my cookies and ate the pumpkin pie.
    The real definition is "CONTROLLED ill will" This is different from animosity as animus is controlled and normally does not lead to violent struggles
  9. equanimity
    steadiness of mind under stress
    It was clear that Bob lacked equanimity throughout the test as his knees were constantly shaking and he consistently dropped his pencil
  10. magnanimous
    noble and generous in spirit
    The Great Man is magnanimous and allows Tasso to go free even after it is obvious that he is a smuggler.
  11. unanimity
    everyone being of one mind
    Unanimity is rare in presidential debates as both sides have opposing viewpoints.
  12. unanimous
    in complete agreement
    The unanimous vote in Congress passed the Bill to legalize marijuana.
  13. affinity
    a natural attraction or feeling of kinship
    Because they share the same language and ideals, the Americans have a strong affinity for the English.
  14. confine
    restrict or limit
    Bob is claustrophobic and thus cannot be confined to small spaces.
  15. definitive
    supplying or being a final or conclusive settlement
    The definitive statement ended the argument on whether tennis was better than golf.
  16. finale
    the closing section of a musical composition
    The musical concert ended in a wonderful finale where the whole band played a phenomenal piece.
    Finale is only to be used when referring to music.
  17. finis
    the temporal end; the concluding time
    The story ended with the word finis, signifying that the series of books was over.
  18. fluctuate
    move or sway in a rising and falling or wavelike pattern
    The stock of MIPS has fluctuated from 0.16 to 10.9 in the past 6 weeks.
  19. fluent
    expressing yourself readily, clearly, effectively
    The fluent debater won the first speaker award at the tournament and received a large trophy for his clear speaking.
  20. fluid
    capable of flowing and easily changing shape
    The mysterious fluid easily changed shape and readily flowed down the river bed.
  21. flux
    a flow or discharge
    The flux of water destroyed the dam in less than one hour.
  22. influx
    the process of flowing in
    The influx of illegal immigrants into the United States became a major debate in the late 1990s
  23. degenerate
    grow worse
    The once meaningful debate soon degenerated into a string of insults.
  24. engender
    make children
    The parents engendered two beautiful baby boys.
  25. genre
    a kind of literary or artistic work
    The genre of the new book I am reading is science-fiction as it involves multiple aspects of technology in the future and incorporates real world elements as well.
  26. progenitor
    an ancestor in the direct line
    Bob's progenitors were very successful businessmen and owned many thousands of acres of land.
  27. regenerate
    reestablish on a new, usually improved, basis
    The team regenerated their robot and won first place after the embarrassing last place finish in the preliminary rounds.
