Full list of words from this list:

  1. chamber
a natural or artificial enclosed space
  2. reciprocate
alternate the direction of motion of
  3. engine
motor that converts energy into work or motion
Although basic engine parts are the same, design differences can change how they operate and how they are repaired. Some engine classifications are: number of cylinders and their arrangement; numbers of valves per cylinder and strokes per cycle; locations of camshaft and valves; design of combustion chamber; types of cooling system, fuel, ignition, and aspiration.
  4. intake
an opening through which fluid is admitted to a tube
  5. stroke
    a single complete movement
  6. compression
    the act of applying force
  7. exhaust
gases ejected from an engine as waste products
  8. bore
a hole or passage made by a drill
  9. gap
an open or empty space in or between things
  10. cylinder
a chamber within which a piston moves
The cylinder block forms the main body of the engine: other parts (such as the crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, main bearing) bolt to or fit inside the block. The cylinder head bolts to the deck of the block and is the foundation for parts such as combustion chambers, spark plugs, intake and exhaust ports, valves, and gaskets.
  11. bearing
a rotating support placed between moving parts
  12. manifold
a pipe that has several outlets to or from other pipes
  13. damper
a device that reduces the vibration of a piano string
  14. variable
liable to or capable of change
  15. displacement
an event in which something is shifted without rotation
  16. ignition
the mechanism that sparks the fuel in a combustion engine
  17. length
the linear extent in space from one end to the other
  18. duration
the period of time during which something continues
  19. overlap
the property of partial coincidence in time
  20. mechanical
    using tools or devices
  21. integral
existing as an essential constituent or characteristic
  22. interference
the act of hindering or obstructing or impeding
  23. tension
the action of stretching something tight
  24. thrust
the act of applying force to propel something
  25. induction
an electrical phenomenon generating an electromotive force
  26. strength
permanence by virtue of the power to resist stress or force
  27. conform
adapt oneself to new or different conditions
  28. embed
fix or set securely or deeply
  29. corrosion
deterioration in metals from oxidation or chemical action
  30. dowel
a peg that holds two adjacent pieces together
  31. vibration
the act of moving back and forth rapidly
  32. inertia
the tendency of something to stay in rest or motion
  33. pulley
a wheel with a groove in which a rope can run
  34. gear
a toothed wheel that engages another toothed mechanism
  35. auxiliary
    functioning in a supporting capacity
  36. mechanism
device consisting of a piece of machinery
  37. liter
a metric unit of capacity; equal to 1,000 cubic centimeters
  38. force
    physical energy or intensity
  39. thermal
relating to or associated with heat
  40. efficiency
the ratio of the output to the input of any system
Engine efficiency is the ratio of power produced by the engine (brake horsepower) and the power supplied to the engine (heat content of fuel). Mechanical efficiency compares brake and indicated horsepowers. Thermal efficiency compares fuel burned and horsepower output.
