John Stuart Mill

John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher, political economist, Member of Parliament, and civil servant. A proponent of utilitarianism, he conceived of liberty as justifying the freedom of the individual in opposition to unlimited state and social control. He was the author of the early feminist work The Subjection of Women and an advocate for women's suffrage.
