Jo Ann Allen Boyce
Jo Ann Allen Boyce is a civil rights figure, an author, as well as a former nurse and singer. Her memoir in verse, This Promise of Change, co-written with Debbie Levy, recounts her experiences as one of the twelve African-American students who participated in the desegregation of Clinton High School in Tennessee in 1956. The book has received numerous honors including the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Nonfiction.
