unsweetened tea

this crazy term is actually expressed verbally and in restaurant signage as "unsweet tea" so the rendition in the "title" of this entry in the word list is incorrect - please make a note.
Anyhoo, "unsweet tea" has become a common expression for the word that used to be known as "iced tea" or simply "tea". Somehow the notion of a independent and separate additive ingredient being absent has become inherent to the many people's ability to comprehend the beverage on its own terms.

To my knowledge, no other beverage - generic or branded has suffered such a fate! The original term "tea" wasn't hurting anyone or anything, it wasn't demanding any sort of revised understanding or an elevated role in our beverage lexicon The real question is . . . what if it is imbued with Splenda? is it still "sweet tea" or is it "faux sweet tea" ? then will sweet tea have to become "classic sweet tea" for people ti understand
