    A statutory law that is the body of rules that determines legal rights.
  9. felony
    a serious crime, such as murder or arson
    A criminal offense punishable for at least on year.
  10. misdemeanor
    a crime less serious than a felony
    An offense punishable by incarceration for typically one year or less.
  11. offense
    a failure to show regard for others
    A violation of the criminal law. Aslo, in some jurisdictions, a minor crime, such as jaywalking, that is sometimes described as ticketable.
  12. infraction
    a violation of a law or rule
    A minor violation of state statute or local ordinance punishable by penalty or a specified, usually limited, term of incarceration.

    a crime that undermines the offender's government
    The attempt to overthrow the government of the society.

    activity that transgresses moral or civil law
    An act in violation of the law.
