The entire process is excruciating for the female red-eyed tree frog because she often has several bachelor red-eyed tree frogs on her back trying to wrestle off her mate.
Carrying the weight of two frogs, the female red-eyed tree frog goes for a swim to keep her bladders full of water and climbs back onto a tree nearby to lay a clutch of eggs on the underside of a leaf overhanging the water.
