    a rigid layer of polysaccharides enclosing a plant membrane

    The epithelial cell membrane allows the water of the blood with certain salts in solution to pass, but rejects some proteins.
  8. mitochondrion
    part of a cell involved in energy production
    Mitochondria are structures in cells that produce cellular energy.
  9. chloroplast
    organelle in which photosynthesis takes place
    The photosynthetic pigment inside chloroplasts, chlorophyll, is where the green color comes from.
  10. lysosome
    a membrane-bound organelle containing digestive enzymes
    Lysosomes contain enzymes that break down wastes to be transported out of cell.
  11. plasma membrane
    a thin membrane enclosing the cytoplasm of a cell
