Fluorescence

These words are related to Fluorescence. Fluorescent minerals are beautiful when viewed under ultraviolet light. Here is a link to some of these specimens: http://users.ece.gatech.edu/~hamblen/uvminerals/

Fluorescent minerals respond to ultraviolet light by producing a wide variety of colors in visible light. Ultraviolet light is invisible to the human eye. Only a small fraction of minerals are fluorescent. Small amounts of impurities called activators are required for many minerals to fluoresce. Different activators can produce different colors in the same mineral.

luminescence resulting from a chemical reaction as the oxidation of luciferin in fireflies
  4. coating
    a thin layer covering something
  5. color
a visual attribute of things from the light they emit
http://www.conservapedia.com/Color_perception Color (or 'colour' in British English) is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, yellow, white, etc. Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution ...
  6. filter
device that removes something from what passes through it
  7. fluorescence
light emitted during absorption of radiation of some other (invisible) wavelength
  8. generate
    bring into existence
  9. incandescence
light emission by a body as its temperature is raised
  10. invisible
impossible or nearly impossible to see
  11. Light
a divine presence believed by Quakers to enlighten and guide the soul
http://www.conservapedia.com/Light Light can refer to electromagnetic radiation of any wavelength, or to EM radiation of visible wavelengths; that stimulate the organs of sight, having for normal human vision wavelengths ranging from ...
  12. long wave
a radio wave with a wavelength longer than a kilometer
  13. luminescence
the emission of light without heat
  14. mercury
a heavy silvery toxic univalent and bivalent metallic element; the only metal that is liquid at ordinary temperatures
http://www.conservapedia.com/Mercury_%28element%29 Mercury (symbol Hg), also known as quicksilver, is a metallic element with the atomic number of 80. It is the only metal that is liquid at room temperatures. Mercury is poisonous to human and animals.
  15. Nikola Tesla
United States electrical engineer and inventor (born in Croatia but of Serbian descent) who discovered the principles of alternating currents and developed the first alternating-current induction motor and the Tesla coil and several forms of oscillators (1856-1943)
http://www.conservapedia.com/Nikola_Tesla Nikola Telsa (July 9, 1856-January 7, 1943) was a Croatian-American electrical engineer, inventor and physicist who contributed to many of the developments in the field of electricity.
  16. short wave
a radio wave with a wavelength less than 100 meters
  17. synthetic
a compound made artificially by chemical reactions
http://www.conservapedia.com/Synthetic Synthetic means, literally, "not natural; man-made." Plastic, for example, is a synthetic material, as is nylon, as opposed to natural cotton. rnThe word descends from the Greek language.
  18. ultraviolet
having wavelengths shorter than light but longer than X-rays
http://www.conservapedia.com/Ultraviolet Ultraviolet (or UV) is electromagnetic radiation in the wavelength range of 4 to 400 nanometers, shorter wavelengths than that of visible light. The sun produces UV, which is commonly split into three bands
  19. vapor
a visible suspension in the air of particles of a substance
  20. visible
capable of being seen or open to easy view
http://www.conservapedia.com/Visible_Light The visible portion of light is that portion of the electromagnetic spectrum which is detectable by the human eye. Light from the sun appears to be white to the human eye because it contains all visible ...
  21. wavelength
a way of thinking or coming to mutual understanding
http://www.conservapedia.com/Wavelength Wavelength is the distance between the crests of a wave, such as an electromagnetic wave or an ocean wave. It is given in units of length and is the reciprocal of frequency.
