Other forms: zip lines; zip lining; zip lined
A zip line is a cable suspended above the ground that has a harness or seat attached by a pulley. You ride a zip line by sitting in the harness and jumping!
Zip lines are usually installed at a sloping angle, so a rider launches off a platform and sails down, thanks to gravity. The earliest of these pulley-and-cable devices were used for transportation and moving goods in mountainous areas. Zip lines have also been enjoyed recreationally for centuries — ever since people realized they're really fun — and today you can find them in playgrounds and adventure parks around the world.
