Other forms: waffle cones
A waffle cone is an extra-large, extra-delicious conical wafer that's used to hold a scoop (or two) of ice cream.
Waffle cones are larger and softer than ordinary ice cream cones, and they have a distinct grid pattern. These tasty ice cream conveyances are made by cooking batter in a waffle iron, then curling the large round wafer into a cone — pointed at the bottom and wide open at the top — while it's still warm. Waffle is from a Germanic word that means "web or honeycomb" and cone's Greek root means "spinning top or pinecone."
