text structure

/tɛkst ˈstrʌkʧər/
IPA guide

Other forms: text structures

When you write an essay, its text structure is the way you organize all the information you include in it. Making an outline before you start writing is one way to decide on the most effective text structure.

You can think of text structure as the foundation or skeleton of a written work — it provides the underlying framework of the finished book, article, or story. What kind of text structure a writer chooses depends on what they want their writing to convey to the reader. You might decide on a narrative text structure to write a funny story about your cat, with rising action, a climax, falling action, and a satisfying conclusion.
