Someone in the raw isn't wearing any clothes. In other words, they’re naked.

This phrase has to do with being in your birthday suit: naked. When you’re in the raw, you’re not wearing clothes. If you go to work in the raw, you’ll probably be fired. Animals are almost always in the raw—except when dog owners put sweaters on little dogs.
