hyperkinetic

/ˌhaɪpərkɪˈnɛtɪk/
IPA guide

Anything that's always in motion can be described as hyperkinetic, like the hyperkinetic movements of an overexcited five-year-old at their own birthday party.

Unusual or excessive movement is hyperkinetic. While this word is sometimes used to mean hyperactive, hyperkinetic motion can also be jerky or uncontrollable. There are some medical conditions involving tremors or muscle contractions that cause people to move their bodies in a hyperkinetic way. You can also describe a jittery, fast-paced action movie as hyperkinetic. The Greek roots of hyperkinetic are hyper, "over or beyond" and kinētikos, "moving."
