escape room

/ɪˈskeɪp rum/
IPA guide

Other forms: escape rooms

An escape room is a collaborative game in which players solve puzzles in order to find their way out of an enclosed space. Some people say the experience of an escape room feels like being a character in a video game.

Escape rooms all have one thing in common: players trapped in a room together have to solve mysteries in order to escape. There's usually a theme — you might be a group of archaeologists working to escape from a mummy's tomb, or detectives solving an art theft in a museum. Working together, players follow clues, find hidden objects, break codes, and solve logic puzzles, eventually finding answer to the mystery and a way out of the room.
