American singer, actor, and activist, Harry Belafonte popularized calypso music in the 1950s. Over the course of his seven-decade career he earned an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT). Beyond calypso, Belafonte performed many other genres: blues, folk, gospel, show tunes, and American standards. He also starred in many films, primarily in the '50s and the '70s.
