crossfader

/ˈkrɔsˌfeɪdər/
IPA guide

Other forms: crossfaders

A crossfader is a control that DJs and music producers use to seamlessly transition from one music track to another.

A crossfader is a horizontal slider control: Moving the slider to the left increases the volume of the music on the left deck and at the same time decreases the volume of the music on the right deck — and vice versa. DJs can create a slow, smooth transition or an abrupt, rapid cut. The latter effect is most often used in hip-hop music, where the DJ can create a rhythmic scratching effect by moving the crossfader control rapidly while also manipulating a record on a turntable.
