Other forms: common courtesies

Common courtesy is basic good manners. Listening when someone else is speaking is an example of common courtesy.

Common courtesy is an unspoken, informal list of rules that people are expected to follow when interacting within society. Small gestures — like smiling when you meet someone new, or saying "please" and "thank you," or apologizing when you accidentally bump into someone — all show basic, common courtesy. Other examples of common courtesy are giving up a seat on the bus to someone who needs it more; cleaning up after yourself in a shared space; and showing up on time to a meeting or party.
