Other forms: bandogs
The word bandog describes a type of canine companion that is fiercely protective and trained to guard a person or property.
The word bandog originally referred to a large, strong dog kept on a chain (or "band") during the day and let loose at night to protect an estate or to ward off poachers. Known for their loyalty, intelligence, and intimidating presence, bandogs were prized as guardians. Today, breeders may use the term to describe a crossbreed, often a cross between a pit bull terrier and a mastiff. The word is also sometimes used figuratively to describe a person who is fiercely protective.
