alameda

/ˌæləmeɪdə/
IPA guide

Other forms: alamedas

An alameda is a tree-lined road or path. If you want some exercise on a hot summer day, go for a stroll along a shady alameda.

The Spanish word alameda derives from the álamo, or poplar tree. Like the words avenue and allee, it describes a long, straight public way that has a row of trees on both sides. Most alamedas are meant for pedestrians or bicycles, rather than car traffic — perfect for taking a leisurely walk!
