Other forms: Chicanos
A Chicano is a person of Mexican descent. Chicanos speak Spanish, and there are many Chicanos in the United States.
America's two closest neighbors are Canada and Mexico. People from Canada are just called Canadians, but people who are Mexican — or descended from Mexicans — can also be called Chicanos. This word means something similar to Hispanic, which is someone of Spanish descent. All Chicanos are Hispanics, but not all Hispanics are Chicanos: Chicano is a more specific word. Chicano is related to mejicano, a Spanish word for a Mexican. This word conveys a sense of pride about Chicano heritage.
