vileness

/ˈvɑɪlnəs/
IPA guide

Other forms: vilenesses

Vileness isn't just a quality of being bad — it's a complete absence of morals or a state of being utterly repulsive.

One kind of vileness is a quality of wickedness, like the vileness of someone who would hurt a kitten on purpose. Another way to use this noun is for something that disgusts you or even makes you feel sick. The vileness of your brother's room after he refuses to wash his socks or throw away the remains of his snacks for a week is a perfect example. The Latin root of vileness is vilis, "cheap or worthless."
