looted

/ˈlutɪd/
IPA guide

Something that's looted has been plundered or stolen. Unfortunately, looted artifacts often end up in museums.

When an object is described as looted, you know it was taken illegally, usually during a war, riot, or natural disaster. Looted water bottles, stolen in the aftermath of a hurricane or earthquake, might be desperately needed by community members. But looted antiquities, seized by invading armies and sold for financial gain, are a different story. Looted and its source, loot, come from the Sanskrit loptram, "stolen property."
