Awards and Highlights

Congrats to all of the top schools in each division! Here's a rundown of the top schools in the US and Canada for the Fall 2023 season.

 

Division I: High School Champion

Starting off strong is this season’s Division I HS Champion and California State Champion, Etiwanda High School! The Eagles mastered 69,485 words, soaring to new heights to take home their seventh consecutive title and adding yet another historic win to their resume. Way to go Eagles!

Division I: High school Runner-up

Calvary Christian Academy rode its way to second place in the last few days of the competition as the Division I Runner-up and Florida State Champ! In a word race against Walnut Hills High School, Calvary rose to the occasion and mastered 46,951 words, beating Walnut Hills by a close 742 words.

Division I: Middle/Elementary School Champion

Sig Rogich Middle School, fueled by their dedication to word mastery came out on top with 29,084 words as both the Division I Middle/Elementary School Champion and Nevada State Champion! This small but mighty team of 120 students competed against teams that were 5x their size and they dominated their way to first place. Very impressive, Rough Riders!

Division I: MS/ES Runner-up

Millburn Middle School is the Runner-up of both Division I and New Jersey! As a seasoned Vocabulary.com competitor since 2016, they’ve now earned a spot in New Jersey’s top 10 for eight years in a row with 24,959 words.

Division II: High School Champion

Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School took the top spot in their high school division and as New Jersey state champs by mastering 32,235 words this season! They put up a great fight against The Ursuline School, winning by a close 1,077 words.

Division II: High school Runner-up

Following closely behind with 31,158 words is The Ursuline School from New Rochelle, NY! The Koalas continue to top the Division II High School leaderboards and this year's Runner-Up title marks their 5th season in the top 10.

Division II: Middle/Elementary School Champion

Let’s give it up for Ellen Fletcher Middle School from Palo Alto, CA! As Vocabulary Bowl first-timers they swept the middle/elementary school leaderboard with a whopping 48,255 words! They marked their territory as Division II Champions and Top Rookie School. Way to go, Tigers!

Division II: MS/ES Runner-up

Division II Middle School Runner-up, Ladera Vista Jr. High School of Fullerton, California has consistently placed in the top fifteen since 2018. This season, they doubled down on word learning and mastered 39,486 words to take home their second divisional runner-up title.

Division III: High School Champion

In Division III, the Knights are back on top! Buckingham Collegiate Charter Academy of Vacaville, California mastered 50,174 words to take home their fifth Division III Champion title. But that's not all, Buckingham also placed second overall, their highest ranking to date, butting elbows with Bowl behemoths like Etiwanda.

Division III: High school Runner-up

And coming in second with 44,275 words is Buckingham’s arch-enemy, rival school, and biggest frenemy - Arp High School from Arp, TX! In their first-ever Bowl season, Arp dominated the leaderboards and was crowned the Texas State Champion. Hats off to these vocabulary superstARPs!

Division III: Middle/Elementary School Champion

This season was THE season for rookie schools! Morehead City Middle School competed in their first Vocabulary Bowl this season and mastered 18,606 words to earn their top spot as Division III Champions! A round of applause for these Vocab Bowl word warriors.

Division III: MS/ES Runner-up

Cherryland Middle School from Elk Rapids, Michigan mastered 13,594 words and propelled up the leaderboards! Cherryland is no stranger to the Bowl and this season marks their eighth year in the Michigan top two. High-fives to these triumphant winners!

Rookie Schools

Joining the Vocabulary Bowl competition is no easy feat. Bravo to all our rookie schools who have been with Vocabulary.com for 3 or fewer years! These top six schools crushed the competition and shined this season (some beating even our top veteran schools)!

Ellen Fletcher Middle School takes the cake with a word mastery of 48,255 words, topping the rookie leaderboard, their divisional leaderboard, and the MS/ES leaderboard! What an amazing accomplishment in their first Vocabulary Bowl.

Not far behind, we have Arp High School who also competed in the Bowl for the first time this season with 44,275 words! Their rivalry with Buckingham really pushed them to go above and beyond this season and we can’t wait to see more of it in the coming seasons!

Next up we have Morehead City Middle School who also won their Division III championship! Their mastery of 18,606 words put them on the map this Vocabulary Bowl as they topped the charts in their very first season.

Oak Lawn Community High School is back and ready to compete. They participated in the 2015 Bowl season and decided to take a hiatus until coming back this season at full force, earning their Illinois state championship. They mastered 18,296 words, only 310 words less than Morehead City!

Pine View School from Osprey, FL earned 5th place in the rookie school category as this was their first ever Bowl season! They mastered 16,469 words and we’re excited to see how they perform next season.

Last but not least, we have our first Canadian title winner, College Regina Assumpta from Montreal, Québec! With a word mastery of 14,939 this season, they earned their title as Québec Province Champion.

The Bowl Goes On!
