Nicknamed after a comic strip horse, Sparky grew up to be inducted into the Cartoonist Hall of Fame. Based on an entry in "Notable Biographies," this list sketches the life, work, and honors of the man who created Charlie Brown and a bunch of other li'l folks.

    Noting his interest in drawing, his mother encouraged him to take a correspondence course (in which lessons and exercises are mailed to students and then returned when completed) from Art Instruction, Inc. in Minneapolis after he graduated from high school.

    In March 2000 the Board of Supervisors of Sonoma County, California, passed a resolution to rename Sonoma County Airport after Schulz.
