Excerpt from "Persepolis"

Persepolis is the name of the ancient capital of the Persian Empire; "Persepolis" is the title of an autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi that shows what her life was like during and after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 (which led to years of war between Iran and Iraq).

    Those who didn't follow the first one went over to the old man, shouting revolutionary slogans and calling him a hero.

    one who voluntarily suffers death
