"The White Man's Burden"

Born to British parents who were serving in colonized India, Rudyard Kipling grew up with the idea that white men had the responsibility to rule and teach the less civilized men of different colors. In his poem, he repeats this idea, but describes it as a thankless task filled with risks and failures.
