A fetus is an unborn vertebrate animal in the later stages of development that shows the main recognizable features of the mature animal.
Fetus is a Latin word that means "the bearing, bringing forth, or hatching of young." Right before you mom gave birth to you, you were a fetus growing inside her stomach. If a chicken has claws, a beak, and wings, but is still inside its egg, it's a fetus, too. A cat may have up to eight of them with paws, tails, and ears inside her right before she gives birth to a litter.
