Dick Shinary

"Hi, I'm Dick Shinary, Chancellor of Literacy at Vocabulary University.
I will share with you a short history about Saint Patrick (389-461), the patron saint of Ireland. He is mainly responsible for converting the Irish to Christianity. It is suggested that Patrick founded more than 300 churches and baptized more than 120,000 people. According to one legend, Patrick used the three-leaf shamrock to show the idea of the Trinity. Many believe that due to this tale the shamrock became the traditional symbol of Ireland. Irish Catholics celebrate Saint Patrick's Day on his feast day, March 17th." Crossword

"Hi, I'm Crossword, the Mascot at Vocabulary University.
Facts that I love about Ireland and Irish people include:
Four famous Irish poets and writers are James Joyce, Eugene O'Neil, George Bernard Shaw and William Butler Yeats.
In Ireland in 1991 there were almost twice as many sheep and twice as many cattle as people (6 million sheep, 6 million cattle to 3.5 million people).
Australia has almost 27 times more sheep than Ireland.

My thought: The Loch Ness monster lives in Scotland. It is black in color. If it were a green monster, maybe, it would live in a lake in Ireland!!!!!! Please email me with additional facts that I might add to this list.
