ROOTY® and Route Routes® - NEW WORD PUZZLES created by Jan and Carey Orr Cook

The new ROOTY® puzzle takes one root and and challenged you to find the four words that all come from the same root. Sentences using the hidden word in context are given as hints to help you. Below is a sample puzzle along with links to 4 other "Rootys".

These 20 Root Routes® puzzles are more challenging than the ones you have become familar with in either our "sessions" or our "thematic puzzle sets." Study the roots and the root meaning in groups before trying to solve the puzzle. The grade level of each word has been identified.
An additional exercise might include putting any set of five words from a puzzle into your own "contectual story" or using each word separately in a new sentence! Students can work individually or in groups.
We believe this "morpheme-approach" is another way to interest students, parents and life-long learners to the "joy of vocabulary."
Feel free to make a copy for home or in the classroom!
