Sectioned describes something that has been divided into parts. Oranges are easy to share because they are naturally sectioned.
Do not confuse sectioned with sanctioned, which means "approved by some source of authority." You could say that a newly-formed town was sectioned into building lots and sold off to the highest bidder at auction––a process sanctioned by the town government.
