Use the adjective posterior to describe something that's located at the back of or behind a structure. You might think you're lucky to get tickets to the big game until you realize they're posterior to a pole and you can't see anything.
Posterior is also a formal way to say later in time. Your mom measures her life in two phases: before kids, when she traveled all over the world, and posterior to having kids, when she didn't. You can also use the word posterior to jokingly refer to the part of your body that you sit on — your backside.
