constraining

When something's constraining, it restricts. Tight jeans or high heels can be constraining––in fact, you can hardly walk. You may find your parents' rules to be constraining as well.

It's hard enough for someone living in our era to imagine doing all the physical work it took to cook and clean and wash clothes by hand, but to imagine doing it while wearing the constraining clothing of that time is nearly impossible.
