Our word-couplet puzzles are called "Word Waves":
These puzzles give two words that are polar opposites. You must choose the words that fall in between this "word spectrum". Examples of the couplets are:
- triumph and defeat
- skillful and clumsy
- innovative and apathetic
- ignorant and enlightened
Answers to the puzzle above: 1 - demolish; 2 - trounce; 3 - overcome; 4 - failure; 5 - concede; 6 - surrender.
Answers in context:
- The hurricane not only pulled down all the power lines but, having demolished everything in site, it left no houses standing on Main St.
- With the final score 42 to 0 and the overwhelming statistical advantage enjoyed by our opponent, no doubt was left that we were thoroughly trounced in every way.
- Our three star players were either sick or injured but they all overcame their ailments long enough to play in the Women's State Championship game
- The failure of the game clock to work meant that the official time had to be kept on the sidelines by one of the parents
- With 35 seconds to go int the basketball game the crowd poured onto the court and our team conceded victory because we were behind by 14 points.
- We may lose badly but, we have such desire that we will never surrender until the final horn is blown.
