Vocabulary University® - Session 139-Level One Contextual Story

All the words in Level #1 come from the root/cells: NAT, TRACT and SEQU-SECU.
Do you know what each one means?
Cinny Nym
Cinny Nym gives you the answers:

  • NAT: be born
  • TRACT: draw, pull
  • SEQU-SECU: follow
Please read the paragraph-story below to help you study and learn new words. In the Session #139 activities following the story, the exercises will help you determine and understand the meaning of the twelve new words. The 12 story words are listed alphabetically below.
  • Attractive, Consequence, Contract, Executive, Good-natured, International, Nativity, Portrait, Pursuit, Retraction, Subsequent, Unnatural

    Story #1:

Jean accepted a CONTRACT as an EXECUTIVE with an INTERNATIONAL company. As a CONSEQUENCE of her NATIVITY in Austria, she did not anticipate an UNNATURAL reaction to custom or language differences. In PURSUIT of her dream to be successful, the GOOD-NATURED and ATTRACTIVE woman made trips overseas. SUBSEQUENT to her travels, her boss made a RETRACTION of his job offer. Her face was a PORTRAIT of despair!

Story #2 (from the interactive puzzle page of S#139, Level One):

Not long after the NATIVITY of Brian, his parents understood that he was a GOOD-NATURED baby. He was such an ATTRACTIVE child that his grandparents wanted a PORTRAIT of him. They finally signed a CONTRACT with an artist in their PURSUIT of a good likeness. As a CONSEQUENCE of their demands, the artist made a RETRACTION of the proposal because he disliked their specific requests. In SUBSEQUENT discussions of the artist's UNNATURAL response, Brian's grandfather, an EXECUTIVE with an INTERNATIONAL reputation, chose another painter for the PORTRAIT.
