39 Week Vocabulary Lesson Plan Week #2: CROSSWORD for roots DICT and CRED

ACROSS
  • 5 - Permission for a customer to have goods or services that will be paid for at a later date
  • 6 - To point out or demonstrate; to serve as a sign, symptom or token of
  • 8 - To damage the reputation of; to destroy belief, faith or trust inš to defame
  • 11 - Any formula or set of beliefs, doctrine or tenet
  • 12 - A decree issued by a sovereign or other authority; any authoritative command
  • 14 - A book containing a selection of the works of a language, usually arranged alphabetically
  • 15 - Leader of a country or form of government in which absolute power is exercised by an imperious ruler
  • 16 - A person who behaves badly or criminally; a villain; evildoer
    DOWN
  • 1 - Evidence (usu. written) of entitlement to rights or privileges
  • 2 - The right, power or authority to administer justice by hearing and determining controversies
  • 3 - Statement or system of beliefs, principles or opinions that guides a person's actions
  • 4 - To foretells the future; to prophecize; to declare or tell in advance
  • 7 - Capable of being believed; trustworthiness; confidence generating; reliability
  • 9 - So extraordinary as to seem impossible; astonishing; hard to believe
  • 10 - State of being set apart for a purpose; a ceremony attending the official opening of something
  • 13 - To proclaim; declare; affirm; connote; imply


    Additional "CRED + DICT" words NOT in the crossword but ones you should know:
  • Incredulous = Indicating disbelief or amazement; skeptical; unwilling or disinclined to believe or trust too readily
  • Credence = Something establishing acceptance as true or valid; belief; trustworthiness
  • Abdicate = To give up or renounce (authority, duties, a high office etc.) esp. in a voluntary, public or formal manner
  • Indictment = A formal accusation by a grand jury, initiating a criminal case; any charge, serious criticism or cause for blame
  • Dictatorial = Inclined to exercise absolute power without free consent of others; imperious; overbearing
