- Macabre - It was MACABRE to witness not only the disgusting dead goat carcass but smell the pungent incense burning as the strange forms danced among the trees.

- Petrify - Casper, the Friendly Ghost, who loved to play never planned to PETRIFY anyone, but children and adults screamed when they saw his vapor-like body.
- Lycanthrope - Bela Lugosi was always cast as a sinister figure in horror movies but, when he was a LYCANTHROPE, this form scared me the most because werewolves are so frightening.
- Phantasm - The new video games are so realistic that when PHANTASMS are created I get fearful thinking that these visions might really come into my room at night.
- Superstition - Some baseball players have many SUPERSTITIONS and believe they will have bad luck if they step on the foul lines or don't touch a base every time they go on the field."
- Miasma - The Ghost House at Parkland is scary, but the imaginary MIASMA creates a feeling of foreboding on the dangerous ride as the acrid steam rises everywhere.
